Yesterday I read about the land banking scam on newspaper. I am always very puzzled why such scam always managed to cheat public year after year. At the same time, how can people be cheated year after year while we can frequently read such sad stories almost every month?
If people are so obsessed with overseas land banking, why don’t they just invest in the Public Listed Property Developer with huge land bank? It easy to buy stock, easy to sell stock; since it is equally difficult to make money from both (land banking and property developer stock), isn’t something that offer easier buy/sale process, regulated, transparent market, a better alternative? There are certainly no shortage of such Property Developers counters in Asia. There are so many Public Listed Property Developers. We are certainly spoiled with choices.

Always remember, buying an asset is always very easy. However, selling an asset is not always easy. If it is a non-regulated scheme or worse, it is already on MAS’s alert list, I strongly urge public to stay away. More often than not, selling is difficult because finding the next buyer can be a great challenge.
As far as I know, stock exchanges offer the easiest way to buy and sell the stock. All we need is just a trading account, a working PC with internet connection. Then question, is it possible that we are unable to find buyer in the stock market? The answer is yes, it is possible; if that happens, that means our business acumen is really terrible that we had bought some junk. Then how do we avoid buying junk? Very simple – just learn it. Making money need to be learnt instead of dreamed.
So conclusion, for those land banking enthusiast, my suggestion to them is to learn investing in property developer stock or just keep the hard earned saving in the bank.
